SHIFTING FROM IMPOSSIBLE TO POSSIBLE

The shift from refusing to consider a goal that’s well above your current level to believing you can do it is possible because there are two parts to your mind. First, there’s the analytical, logical part that’s focused on implementing a step-by-step, practical plan. The other side is the nonlinear, imaginative, visionary part of your mind that draws on your more unconscious creativity. When this takes over, you can make quantum leaps. Once you feel open to the possibility of succeeding and are simply curious about how it can be achieved (without getting stuck on “the how’s”), you open that creative part of your mind. That unlocks a treasure chest! Each day, each time you look at your goal, you’ll think: “Yes, I want that!” The creative part will see it as an interesting problem to solve and be excited to try to reach the goal.

~ When you begin to believe that anything is possible, anything is possible. ~

The creative part of your mind will begin to incubate and try to stimulate growth for the ideas and visions. You’ll feel nudges to act, similar to intuition or moments of inspiration. Sometimes they won’t seem logical or practical. But you’ll be drawn to them and they’ll keep popping up until you listen. When a goal excites you and you’re open to it, you’ll summon more energy, courage, and desire to take action. Once you set a specific goal and focus on it with an open vibe, you’ll attract what’s needed to bring it to fruition. Your focus, enthusiasm, and diligent work will rise to the level needed. In this way, a goal truly acts as a catalyst.

First answer the question: “What goal do I want to go after?” Most people set a goal that’s only incrementally bigger than their current income—just within their current belief system of what’s possible—and don’t consider the bigger vision of what they can get if they open their minds to it. It’s a good first step. But when you realize the power of what a goal draws from you and how specifically it matches what you want, think very carefully about what goal to set. Do you want to use your brilliant ideas, drive, and action to meet a goal that’s just one step up from where you are now? Or do you want to match a goal that’s ten steps beyond your current situation—a big, fat, outrageous goal that would rock your world if you could achieve it?

When Bethany came to me, I was impressed with her incredible talents as an interior designer. But her business was run more like a hobby. She’d considered a few goals but was always limited by what she thought she could make, based on how things had gone so far. We created goals together, starting with how much money she needed to take home to pay bills, add to her savings and retirement plans, and enjoy life. This goal represented one step up for her—short-term and modest.
